Special Education Director
Lorena ISD is ready, willing and able to identify and serve all children with disabilities residing within its jurisdiction who are in need of special education and related services.
Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), to be eligible for special education and related services, a student must meet the federal definition of a disability. There are specific categories of disability under IDEA. Special education and related services will be made available to all eligible students ages 3-21 (services will be made available to eligible students on their third birthday.) Children who have been identified as having a hearing or visual impairment are eligible for special education services at birth. Parents who suspect that their child may have a disability should contact their child's teacher or a campus administrator to discuss a referral to the campus RtI team.
Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness activities, screening and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and refer school age and younger children who may benefit from early intervention or education services. Please contact the Special Education Department at 254-857-4798 if you would like additional information.
