The American Rescue Plan Act, passed on March 11, 2021, provided $122.7 billion in supplemental ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding, known as the ESSER III grant. Lorena ISD along with all schools in the US were given the opportunity to apply for this grant funding to offset COVID-19 expenses and help students make up for any learning losses during the past year and a half.

As part of the grant process, the district held a public hearing and conducted a survey of stakeholders to determine areas of need and create a plan for utilizing the grant funds.
