LISD Mourns the Passing of Former Board Member Dr. Robert Sloan

The Lorena ISD family extends our deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Robert
Sloan, who passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2026.

Dr. Sloan was a valued member of the Lorena community for many years and a
dedicated servant leader. He served on the Lorena Board of Trustees from 1986 to
1995. First elected in 1986, he was later chosen as Vice President, serving from 1987 to 1990, before being elected President of the Board in 1991. He served in that role until 1995, when he was selected as President of Baylor University.

Dr. Sloan and his wife, Sue, were deeply committed to the Lorena Independent School
District. Sue served as a Special Education teacher at Lorena Elementary School, and
together they raised seven children who attended Lorena schools.

During this difficult time, we remember Dr. Sloan’s lasting contributions to our schools
and community and extend our thoughts and prayers to Sue, their children, and the
entire Sloan family. We are grateful for their many years of dedicated service and the
positive impact they made on the Lorena community.
