Sciacca named to TAEA leadership role

LISD Fine Arts is proud to announce that Brittany Sciacca has been appointed to a leadership role within the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA), the nation’s largest state visual art education organization, serving over 5,500 members.

Over the past two years, in conjunction with her spearheading the LISD District of Distinction award in visual arts, Sciacca has served as a TAEA Leadership Scholar. As a Scholar, she has presented professional development workshops at the annual conference and gained valuable experience within the organization. Her dedication and contributions have earned her a prestigious new appointment: Vice President Elect Youth Art Month. Sciacca was elected to this position by the membership of TAEA made up of visual art educators and administrators across Texas.

In this statewide leadership role, Sciacca will report directly to the TAEA President, Executive Director, and Executive Board. As VP Elect for Youth Art Month, she will serve as a voting member of both the Executive Council and the Council-at-Large. Her primary responsibility will be to organize and oversee the programs celebrating art throughout the year, such as an exhibition of artwork in the Texas Association of School Administrators / Texas Association of School Boards (TASA / TASB) txEDCON Exhibit Hall during the fall along with student artist demos, a Texas YAM Flag Design Contest, an exhibit of over 100 pieces of student artwork at the Bullock Texas State History Museum followed by an Awards Celebration, and various Big Art Day celebrations / events in the month of March.

TAEA is a premier advocate for quality visual arts education in Texas. Its mission is to support and advance visual arts education by offering professional development opportunities, promoting that the visual arts are an integral part of curriculum, and empowering educators through leadership, service and research initiatives.

Lorena ISD congratulates Mrs. Sciacca on this significant achievement and celebrates her continued leadership and impact in visual arts education across the state and within Lorena ISD.
