Sophomore Roman Whitton will compete at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention’s national contest in November. The event is the largest percussion gathering in the world.
Whitton is headed to the contest after winning first place on solo tenor drums, and second place on solo snare drum at the state level at the Plano Drumline Competition. After that strong showing Whitton will be the first Leopard to compete in the solo tenor drums, and solo snare drum at the national competition.
Lorena has the most snare drum titles of any high school in the country with five. The earliest was in 2007. Lorena has finished in the top three in the tenor competition, but Whitton is looking to change that this year, and bring home the school’s first title in the event. He is the first LHS student to compete in the national contest since 2019.
The Percussive Arts Society International Convention will be held November 13 - 16 in Indianapolis.
