Any student found to have live lice or active nits (dark in color and less than 1
inch from the scalp) will be sent home for treatment. Treatment should include
shampooing the hair with a lice killing shampoo, combing with a fine tooth comb
to remove all nits and treating the home environment through laundering,
bagging and vacuuming. Any student sent home will be required to check in with
the nurse before they will be admitted to class.
Lice do not jump or fly from one individual to another. They are passed through
shared items. Prevention is the best way to tackle the lice problem. Teach
your student not to share combs, brushes, hats, batting helmets, hair accessories
or coats/jackets, etc. Lice can also be spread through sleepovers, upholstered
surfaces or anywhere they have head to head contact or head contact where
another student’s head has been. Check your student’s hair periodically for any
signs of lice or nits. If you find lice on you child, please let the nurse know so we
can check out any trouble spots.
Also,If your child is diagnosed with scabies, please report that to the school nurse.
